YOU CAN'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER!

But that is exactly what most people do! ...and that is the reason that this saying exists. You do it... I do it... we all do it! And the same rule applies to CD and cassette covers! If you see many different CDs all laid out on a sales table, which one gets your attention first? Obviously, it is the one with the most interesting cover.

The music or multimedia content may be wonderful, but it is the cover that may be the deciding factor as to whether or not your CD is even noticed at all! Even nature teaches us that flowers are bright and colorful to attract the bees for pollinating.

Another old saying warns against being "penny wise and pound foolish". So is the person that spends many hours producing a CD and many dollars to get it published, but decides to "save some money" on the cover design by designing the cover themselves. You

have not saved a thing if people ignore your CD.  Perhaps you believe that it is not important, that the content is what really matters. If it does not matter, then why do the record publishing companies make certain that the cover of every CD by their best selling artists have attractive, professionally designed covers? You would think that it should not matter because the reputation of the artist is all that is necessary. But market research proves otherwise and this is why the large publication companies do not skimp on the design of their covers.
